Tour details
Amber Mountain National Park
Duration:
1 day(s) - Location:
Diego Suarez
Departure is from the hotel around 8 am. You will pass through Sakaramy to visit Lake Mahery of volcanic origin. Our guide will describe you the geology of the region, the Amber massive.
The road continues in direction of Joffre Ville. You will discover the history of this small city with its colonial architecture. Then we continue towards the Amber Mountain National Park. In the morning we visit the small lake, and a sacred waterfall.
Situated 1000 km north of the capital, the Amber Mountain rises elegantly to 1475 meter high. Like an oasis, it stands out in stunning fashion, surrounded by an area of dry savannah. Covered with luxuriant vegetation and dressed by a thick green coat of rain forest, the Amber Mountain is a paradise for botanists. With an annual rainfall of 3585 mm, it is the wettest region of the Island.
The wild beauty of its landscapes extends throughout the park, which consists of nearly 18000 hectares of green forest in which long rivers take shape connecting the various lakes. Because of the volcanic nature of this massif, torrents and waterfalls gush out of everywhere, offering gorgeous pictures.
Lunch is at "camp des roussettes". After a short break, we depart in direction of the Antakarana waterfall, and then we walk along a botanical path to and large waterfall. We return to the hotel at the end of the afternoon.
