Ankarana National Park
As well, the Park counts 10 species of lemurs (including the crowned Lemur and the Lemur of Sanford) and 92 species of birds, of which 54 are endemic to Madagascar. The massif shelters, at the bottom of its caves, the majority of the species of bats on the island, as well as crocodiles and certain types of blind fish.
The local population are Antakarana, of which the social structure still rests on principles of monarchy. Through out the canyons, visiting of the caves and the route to Tsingy, you will discover the history of this place.
Diego - Ankarana
Ankarana National Park is located 120 km from Diego Suarez by National Road 6. This road is in quite a good state, and makes it possible to get to the east entry (Mahamasina) in 2 hours.
For the Western access, there are two tracks : one after Anivorano, which makes it possible to join the camp of Americans in 3 hours (very bad track); or just before Ambilobe, which makes it possible to join the camp of the Americans in 3 hours - however, this is a closed track during July - August because it is cut off by a river.
Duration:
There are several possibilities of tours :
East
Generally clients, during the day, visit the cave of the bats, the rivers, and the small Tsingy. It is a 3 hours trip.
For those who are extremely hardy, they can continue on to the green lake, and the big Tsingy accessible by a 6 to 8 hours walk (24 km). Two new circuits were recently opened, which would make it possible to see the big Tsingy by a 2 hour walk.
West
Many excursions are possible at the beginning of the camp of the Americans, and many caves are there to be explored.
The routes are to be decided with your guide according to your physical capacities.

Important:
- From December to April, it is rather difficult to make excursions in Ankarana due to the hot climate of the Diego region.
- In the East, the track is practically accessible all the year.
- On the other hand, the track of the western part is accessible only from July.
Accommodation:
Many options of accommodation are available to you, especially due to the proximity of Diego Suarez, only 2 hours by road. Moreover, more and more small camping grounds have opened to offer accommodation in tents.
Continuation:
You have the possibility of continuing on the road towards Ambilobe, in the South, or on the road heading North, towards Diego.
