Vanila Hotel and Spa has a strong commitment from the opening through its leadership in many activities:

- Founder and organizer of the Cultural Festival of the Indian Ocean "the DONIA" since 1994

- One of the founders and current President of the association that manages the Training Centre of Tourism and Hotel Nosy Be, which allows 60 young Malagasy to graduate after two years of study

- At the head of GIHTNB (Interprofessional Group of Hotels and Tourism of Nosy Be) repeatedly and, as such, very active on the environmental aspects (set up of a collection service and waste treatment) and social (HIV Prevention AIDS, insertions of school youth, actions against sex tourism, etc..)

- Creation and management for several years a football school with 120 children aged 7 to 16 years and 7 educators trained

- Vanila Hotel and Spa was awarded the "Green Label" (second hotel across the north of Madagascar)

- Vanila Hotel and Spa has greatly contributed to the establishment of Nosy Be in the "Charter for Sustainable Tourism," which is one of the staunchest adherents

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

Mr. Salles is the current chairman of the GIHT, a local group of hoteliers. His hotel employs about 120 people from Nosy Bé (mostly Dzamandzar and Hell-Ville).
